KB10167 - What is the difference between the Internet Server and Internet Server LITE products?
The full IS version is a comprehensive GIS development toolkit for the deployment of GIS applications on a www platform. In fact, the IS is very similar to the DK-ActiveX, containing the same object API and supporting the same 2,200 plus functions and properties. Unlike the DK-ActiveX, the IS is optimized for serving bitmap images in a web server environment.
The IS LITE is designed as an entry level web publisher of raster and vector GIS map projects. It features a simple API interface designed to, as simply as possible, support the development of limited interactive web mapping applications. The IS LITE supports interactive functionalities such as an unlimited number of layers, full zooming and scrolling, basic thematic mapping, basic querying against vector attributes, transparencies, raster pixel manipulations, and even custom drawing. Generally the IS LITE is designed to support the same functionality as the TatukGIS free Viewer, so that projects can be set up with the free Viewer to be web published with the IS LITE.
The IS LITE cannot be used to create a project or to edit and save data. It cannot be used for functions such as routing, SQL database "joining", on-the-fly conversion of data between coordinate systems, or spatial queries. But the IS LITE is equal to the IS in terms of map data publishing capacity. It supports the same wide range of raster and vector formats and features to most effectively publish very large files. Like the full IS, the IS LITE supports features such as R-tree indexing, SQL vector layers, and the TatukGIS PixelStore format for huge raster images.
The on-line map samples on the TatukGIS, and the IS download sample set, demonstrate some of the types of web mapping solutions that can be implemented with the IS LITE.
