KB10374 - Does the AIC export a true GeoTIFF, i.e., with full (extended) tags embedded into the image itself? What about a *.prj file?
No. As of version 2.0, the AIC generates only the "tie point" tags when exporting to the GeoTIFF format, and does not generate a *.prj file. These tie points are what are generally understood by most other GIS and CAD software programs, which also generally do not yet support full GEOTIFF tags. For instance, we have tested GeoTIFF images exported by the AIC for compatibility with ArcView, Microstation, etc.
A future (post v. 2.0) AIC release will add support for the generation of *.prj files, along with coordinate system support that is WKT OpenGIS compliant. Support of true GeoTIFF's, with the extended embedded tags, however, is not a near-term priority. This is primarily because other leading GIS software companies also do not support it, so it is not necessary at this time to be compatible with their products.
