KB10609 - How can I create polygon areas from my TIGER line boundaries, such as county boundaries, city limit boundaries, school district boundaries, etc.?
Use the Topology Builder functionality in the TatukGIS Editor to create polygons from intersecting lines. The topology builder functionality can be used to create a polygon layer from any line layer in any supported vector map format which contains lines that cross each other. Any area enclosed on all sides by crossing lines will be converted into a polygon shape.
The steps are:
1. Open the polyline layer in Editor and select this layer in the Legend panel.
2. Click on the ‘Topology’ toolbar button or ‘Tools/Topology’ menu to open the polyline layer into the Topology Builder window.
3. Within the Topology Builder window, set ‘Topology type’ that is to be generated to ‘Polygonal’.
4. Generate the polygon file.
The resulting polygon layer will be generated in the SHP format. If required, the Editor can then be used to convert the SHP polygon layer into another supported file type.
For more guidance on the use of the Topology Builder functionality, refer to the ‘Topology Building & Correcting Tutorial’, which is found under the Editor program’s Help/Tutorial menu.
