KB10664 - How do I use the snapping feature in the Editor to snap to the locations of vertices in another open vector map layer?
Do the following:
- Be sure that you are in editing mode, i.e., the edit tool is selected and the layer to be edited is highlighted in the Legend panel.
- Select the snap-to layer from the dropdown list just to the right of the edit tool icon. All open vector layers will appear in that drop down list.
- Make the vertices in the snap-to layer visible by turning on the “Show Tracking Points” feature under the Tools/Options/Editor menu.
The default status of the Show Tracking Points feature was accidentally set to the off position in the version 1.6.4. The next Editor update will have the default status of this feature set to the on position and the feature will renamed to something more descriptive, such as ‘Show Snapping Points’.
It should be noted that version 1.6.4.422 contains a bug relating to in the snapping feature. If the Editor application is opened first, and the project or file layers then opened into the Editor using the Open Project or Add Layer menu items, the snapping works fine. But if the user first clicks on the project file in the Windows browser to open the Editor application with the file layers inside, the snapping feature does not work. This bug will be fixed in the next compilation.
