KB10792 - Visibility (disappearance) of long street name labels at various zoom levels.
For a given label to appear when using the follow-the-line positioning feature, the length of the line segment (between any two line nodes) at a given scale (zoom) level must be longer than the label. If within a given map view, no segment of a particular line is of a sufficient length to accommodate the label, the label will not be rendered. (Labels are also not rendered if they would otherwise overlap other labels.) Possible solutions to increase the probability of labels appearing in any given map view or scale level are:
- Use shorter/smaller labels. You can do this by using less text in the labels or by reducing the font size of the text within the labels. Use the Section feature within the visual layer property control to set label sizes based on scale ranges. (Refer to the on-line TatukGIS Editor/Viewer tutorials for guidance on how to use the Section feature to render labels and other aspects of the map appearance differently at given scale levels.)
- Create a duplicate street map layer just for the labeling. The street lines in this layer should be formed with fewer nodes, resulting in longer line segments between the nodes. For example, it might make sense to have no line intersection nodes at some street crossings, so that the placement of a street label could flow through the point of the intersection.
