KB10801 - No DK examples seem to have been installed with the DK trial version?

Refer to the instructions provided in the DK read-me file. As of the DK 8.x version, these instructions state:

“Samples and data are placed in "Documents And Settings\All Users" to manage Vista compatibility”

Or you can just use:
; ; Start->All Programs->TatukGIS->Developer Kernel XXXX-> Samples

The Vista operating system requires that we handle the DK samples in this way.
