This sample presents a SHP format vector world map, with an format pixel background
layer, being published by the
TatukGIS Internet Server LITE product. The vector dataset, approximately 1 gigabyte in size,
was extracted from the Digital Chart of the World (DCW) data set and customized by TatukGIS.
The map presentation reflects the World Geodetic System 1984, i.e., no projection is applied.
Zoom in on the map to see greater map detail. Select a capital city or country name from the drop down lists to query for and zoom to the selected map location.
The data layers are organized separately for each country, and separately by state for the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. The data for each country or state consists of six SHP file data layers. The separate data sets are assembled by database query to be displayed together at higher zoom levels. At multi-country region or country specific zoom levels, only the data files associated with that particular region or country are called, thereby enhancing the speed.
The following customizations were performed to the original DCW dataset for this sample:
-
DCW data converted from the ArcInfo E00 format to the SHP format with the use of the TatukGIS
Developer Kernel (DK)
-
Data for the former USSR and Antarctica converted from other coordinates systems in
the DCW dataset to the WGS 1984/unprojected coordinate system with the use of the
DK
-
Country border data updated to reflect geopolitical changes during the last fifteen
years, e.g., the creation of countries in the Balkan region, separation of the Czech
Republic and Slovakia, creation of East Timor from Indonesia, etc. Czech Republic and Slovakia, creation of East Timor from Indonesia, etc. with the use of the TatukGIS Editor
-
An additional top view world map layer containing the borders of each country, country and continent names, capital cities, major bodies of water, etc. was prepared from the DCW files with the use of the TatukGIS Editor.
The vector data set published in this sample, organized as a TatukGIS project, can be purchased
from TatukGIS. The pixel background data used in this sample was obtained from
