The TatukGIS Internet Server (IS) is a comprehensive GIS development toolkit provided as an ASP.NET server for the development of fully web-based GIS mapping solutions. The Internet Server utilizes the visual design capabilities of any ASP.NET (.Net Framework 2) compatible programming tool such as Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 & 2008, Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005, and CodeGear RAD Studio 2007, but can also be programmed with any standard HTML or text editor. The Internet Server is appropriate for the development of enterprise-level GIS server solutions incorporating spatial data stored in SQL server database formats as well as GIS/CAD industry standard vector and raster image formats.
The Internet Server supports an Adobe Flash client control for smooth on-line map dragging, zooming, and editing. Each on-line user can turn the Flash control on/off.
The Internet Server is offered as a standard and a LITE version. The most significant difference is the application programming interface (API). Whereas the standard edition supports an object API with the same framework of 2,300 functions and properties as the
TatukGIS Developer Kernel
toolkit product, the IS LITE features a simple API supporting a level of functionality that is similar to the free TatukGIS Viewer product running on a desktop PC. The deployment of an IS LITE based web server solution requires only a "web master" ability level. Any IS LITE based application can be opened in the standard TatukGIS Internet Server edition, providing for easy upgradeability.
Each IS license purchase (of standard IS edition) provides two product editions: i) the TatukGIS Internet Server Developer Edition for use for development purposes and ii) the Internet Server deployment edition for installation to a production server. (A license of the IS Developer Edition is included with each license of the TatukGIS Developer Kernel to allow the DK licensed developer use of the IS product for development purposes.)
The TatukGIS Editor or the free TatukGIS Viewer can be a useful companion product to the Internet Server. The Editor or Viewer can be used to organize the map layers and set up the layer properties such as colors, line widths, polygons fills, label appearances, transparences, symbols, spatial indexing, the legend, etc. and save all as a TatukGIS project file (or even as an ASP.NET project) for interactive web publishing with the IS.
