Editor's BIM Explorer

The TatukGIS Editor has for some time been able to open and view IFC files containing Building Information Modeling data. Editor version 5.77 adds a BIM Explorer to browse the structure of IFC files, see the attributes of selected elements, turn on/off visualization of selected elements, etc.

The following offers a quick demonstration of how the BIM Explorer works. The data is provided by the Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics (IAI) / Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) - KIT IFC Examples.

  1. Open an IFC file in the viewer.

  2. Upon opening the IFC file, the BIM Explorer automatically pops up. Attributes of the selected element are shown in the lower panel.

  3. Let's try unchecking a feature (e.g., the roof structure).

  4. The viewer is updated accordingly, i.e., visualization of the roof structure is turned off.

  5. When an object is selected in the viewer, that object also becomes selected in the BIM Explorer.

  6. Furthermore, double-clicking on an element in the BIM Explorer automatically zooms to that element in the viewer.

The operations presented in this demonstration work in 2D mode as well as 3D.
