The company pcSKOG has developed software to produce and implement forest management plans in Sweden for over 15 years. Our products are used by the majority of forestry management companies and forest owners in Sweden. Clients range from large forestry management companies to individual land owners. Therefore, we need to be able to efficiently handle relatively large amounts of vector and raster map data.
Since the 1990's, pcSKOG software used ESRI ArcView 3.2 as the GIS engine. When we discovered TatukGIS, the decision to move to the TatukGIS Developer Kernel (DK) was really quite simple. We appreciate the performance, range of functionality, support for many file formats, royalty-free licensing model, and that the DK is developed in Delphi (which we use for our development).
With the move to the DK, we have technically progressed from the ArcView 3.2 GIS engine, Paradox database, and data storage in ESRI SHP files to the TatukGIS DK GIS engine, SQLite database, and data storage in a geodatabase.
We recently released the first version of pcSKOG products based on the TatukGIS DK and - we are pleased to report - the response from our customers has been very positive.
