To update the screen after making any modifications (vector edit, parameter change, etc.) and retain the same map extent after each update, there are two options:

• Update function – updates the screen, after first rebuilding a cache.
• Repaint function - updates the screen, but if there is something in cache, the cache will be used to repaint the screen.

The use of the term "cache" here means a double-buffer for the output.
